Fifty years ago, Cleon (Guy) LeMont, a central Minnesota entrepreneur, opened a testing laboratory with a focus on detecting microbiological contamination in water, the environment, and food. Named Environmental Protection Laboratories, the company began making its own microbiological supplies, including prepared culture media and live microorganisms on slants. To help other laboratories streamline their testing processes and ensure accurate results, Environmental Protection Laboratories incorporated the name Microbiologics and began manufacturing their culture media and lyophilized microorganisms on a larger scale. The company’s innovations in microorganism lyophilization would help revolutionize microbiological quality control in clinical and industrial laboratories around the world.
Five decades later, that company, now known solely as Microbiologics, still sets industry standards for microbial controls. Over those 50 years, much has changed; however, our mission has never wavered. From our humble roots as a regional testing facility, we now partner with diagnostic technology leaders, drug and vaccine developers; clinical, pharmaceutical, food and water testing laboratories; and countless other life-science organizations. Together, we work to protect the health and safety of people around the world through continuous scientific innovation.
2021 marks the 50th Anniversary of Microbiologics. To celebrate, Microbiologics will be hosting a series of monthly contests with lots of special giveaways and fun.
